The Power Grid is a lightweight-to-midweight active midlayer. As part of a system it's comfortable from roughly 20-45°F depending on activity level and shell; worn alone it suits cool, dry, high-output efforts from about 45-60°F.
Mid-winter ice climbs and ski tours when layered under a shell; shoulder-season bouldering and backpacking as your primary warmth piece. It excels when you're moving - grid construction vents heat during exertion and holds it at rest.
No - grid fleece is intentionally breathable and air-permeable. Pair it with a wind shell or hardshell in exposed conditions for a complete system.
Polartec Power Grid fabric, 60% recycled polyester, with a grid-backer that reduces weight while increasing loft and airflow. Full-zip front for fast ventilation and easy layering.

As a midlayer under a shell it works from roughly 20-45°F; alone, it's best for 45-60°F active use. Warmth scales with your layering system.
No - it's breathable by design. Add a wind shell or hardshell in exposed, windy conditions.
Compared with heavier fleece, the Power Grid packs smaller and manages moisture better; compared with budget grid fleece, you get Polartec fabric quality and Mountain Hardwear's technical fit at a discounted price.
This fleece breathes better than any heavy fleece I've used. Wore it skin-out ski touring at 20°F and never overheated. The grid backing is surprisingly soft against a base layer.
Fit is dialed, quality is excellent. Zero complaints.
The Power Grid fabric is exactly what I wanted for winter running and backcountry days—light, warm when it needs to be, and it dumps heat fast. The full zip makes venting easy on climbs. Just note the cut is athletic and a bit snug; I sized up to layer over a midweight base and it's perfect now. The recycled content is a nice bonus without any compromise in feel.
I've had this hoodie for about five months now and it's been on every hike, ski day, and camping trip since. The grid pattern really does trap warmth while staying breathable, which is the whole point of Polartec Power Grid and Mountain Hardwear nailed the execution. Thumbholes and a proper scuba-style hood are small touches that make a big difference in wind and cold. It's held up through dozens of washes with zero pilling. At this sale price it's honestly a steal compared to similar midlayers.
Love the fabric and the fit, but the main zipper occasionally catches near the top. Minor annoyance on an otherwise excellent piece.
That should tell you everything. Excellent fleece.
Nice quality and very breathable, but as a midlayer it's on the light side. Fine for high-output days, less ideal for standing around in the cold.
At my age I've owned a lot of fleece, and this one earns its place in the pack. It's light for the warmth it provides and stuffs down small in my overnight bag. The hood fits over a beanie without feeling tight, which my older neck appreciates on chilly mornings. Machine washes fine, hasn't shrunk, still looks new after a full season.
Quality is fine but the sleeve length was way off for my arms even in the correct torso size. Returning it.
This thing moves with you. I wear it for bouldering warm-ups and as a belay layer outside, and the stretch and breathability are exactly right. The gridded interior dries fast when I sweat, and it doesn't stink up like my old polyester fleece did. Also love that it's 60% recycled—feels good to buy less virgin fabric. Would absolutely recommend to any climber looking for a do-everything midlayer.
