The most common buyer question: do Mountain Hardwear Hardwear AP Pants run small? The answer depends on build:
The Hardwear AP Pant is offered in 30", 32", and 34" inseams so you can match your trail-shoe or approach-shoe break without cuffing.
Stretch movement for high steps and stems, durable fabric that survives granite and brush, and secure storage that keeps valuables where they belong all day.
At $47.49 versus $94.98 compare-at, you save $47.49 — 50% off. Stack coupon SAVE15 for another 15% off, and your order over $45 ships free. This is the affordable entry point for a premium brand climbing pant.
Versus rigid canvas work pants: the AP stretches and breathes. Versus ultralight running tights: the AP adds durable face fabric and real pockets. Yes — it's built exactly for that: stretch for movement, durable fabric for rock and brush, and secure pockets for the approach.
Wore these bouldering at the gym, then straight to a hike the next morning. The stretch is fantastic on high steps and the fabric shrugs off granite scrapes. They've held their shape through a week of wear without washing. Ordering a second pair.
Best climbing pant I've owned. Perfect stretch, tough fabric.
Finally a technical pant that fits my thighs without gaping at the waist. The stretch fabric moves well on the wall and dries quickly after sweating through a hot approach. Waistband could be slightly softer under a harness, but that's a minor gripe.
Fit and mobility are excellent, and the durable face fabric has survived scree and brush. My complaint is storage — only two hand pockets, so I'm always juggling my phone and snacks. For pure movement, five stars; for utility, three.
I'm 62 and hike with a trail club several times a week. These pants move with me and don't bind at the knee. Washed them a dozen times and they still look new. The sale price with the coupon made this an easy yes.
Took these on a multi-pitch day and never thought about them once, which is the highest compliment for climbing pants. Slight pilling starting near the ankle after two months, but nothing structural. Would recommend.
The stretch and fabric are nice, but the waistband on my pair wouldn't stay up no matter how I adjusted it. Ended up hiking half a day tugging them back into place. Exchanging for a different size to see if it helps.
