Mountain Hardwear Basin Trek Pants

Just got back from a seven-day trek and these pants handled everything — scree, rain, bushwhacking, and long days with a 40-pound pack. The stretch fabric moves with you and the articulated knees make steep climbs feel natural. Zero blowouts, zero chafing. They look decent enough that I wore them to dinner in town afterward.

Finally, hiking pants that fit my quads without baggy ankles. The gusseted crotch is a game changer for high steps. I'd love one more pocket, but the durability and comfort earn the four stars.

The fabric quality is excellent and they've held up well on trail. But I ordered my usual size and the inseam was a solid inch too long for me — needed a hem. Also worth noting they run slightly roomy in the waist.

I've worn these on weekday trail runs, weekend hikes, and even garden work. They dry fast after a stream crossing and dirt brushes right off. Six months in and there's no fraying at the cuffs despite regular contact with brush and rock.

Took these on a rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hike and they performed beautifully. Breathable on the ascent, warm enough on the early morning start. The only reason not five stars is the price at retail — but on sale they're fantastic value.

Disappointed. These are marketed as heavy-load trek pants, but the fabric snagged on a thorny section during my very first outing, leaving a small pull. It hasn't compromised the pants structurally, but I expected more abrasion resistance at this price point.

I usually hate long pants on the trail but these converted me. They breathe better than my old shorts and protect my legs from sun and brush. At 58, comfort matters more than ever, and these deliver on every hike.

Liked the first pair so much I ordered a second before they sold out in my size. Great articulation, durable fabric, and they pack down tiny for travel. Wish they came in more colors.
